Emma is a specialist gastroenterology dietitian with 6 years’ experience working within the NHS in Northern Ireland. She graduated from Ulster University in 2016 with a first-class honours and prizes for best over-all dietetics student and post placement examinations.
She has completed courses in the areas of Irritable Bowel Disease, Low Fodmap Diet, Coeliac Disease, Liver Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer amongst others. She has a special interest in Coeliac disease and has assisted many with their gluten free diets.
Emma also has an interest in weight management and has worked with many clients in achieving a healthy weight. She recommends healthy, sustainable weight loss which can be achieved with the aid of a personalised dietary plan. This includes weight loss for conditions such as type two diabetes or high cholesterol. Emma can also help clients with healthy weight gain, for example post-surgery or illness, and avoid malnutrition.
Emma, in line with the HCPC and British Dietetic Association, provides factual and evidence based dietary advice and personalised nutritional plans. Her experience of working with both inpatients and outpatients will ensure you receive the best dietary input and aid you in achieving your dietary goals.

How long will each dietitian lurgan session last?

Do you do allergy testing? dietitian lurgan
No we recommend you consult with your GP re. specific allergy testing and avoid allergy testing that is not scientifically based
However, Emma will look at potential dietary triggers or intolerances and recommend an exclusion diet based on personal diet history
Online allergy testing is often unreliable and expensive and not recommended by professionals
A hydrogen breath test can be requested from gastroenterologist (only if patient is under one) for certain intolerances e.g. lactose which will be recommended by Emma if felt appropriate. Dietitian lurgan

Can Emma prescribe nutritional supplements?
No but she can recommend which ones would be most suitable depending on condition / symptoms. These can be purchased or if appropriate Emma will write to your GP and request prescription of these however it is at the discretion of GP whether they prescribe them. Dietitian lurgan
Do you do blood testing?
No but Emma might request blood tests from your GP and Emma will follow these up e.g. B12 / folate / vitamin D.
If certain blood test show vitamin and mineral deficiency dietary advice will be provided for same.
Will you contact my GP?
Yes if needed a letter will be sent to your GP with a summary of the dietary advice given including requests for medications, supplements or blood tests. It is at the discretion of the GP whether they complete these requests however
What weight loss can be expected?
Emma and the British Dietetic Association recommend a sustainable, healthy, target weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week. It is hoped this will achieve long term weight loss which can be maintained.
A personalised plan will be provided to achieve this weight loss and regular follow up is recommended.
Can you see patients with inflammatory bowel disease?
Yes we can see patients with Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis however you should be under a specialist team.
Can you see women with menstrual cycles issues – e.g. PCOS, irregular periods.
